Having scored his first car racing victory two weeks ago, Dino Beganovic returns to his Prema Powerteam single-seater this weekend for the final round of the Formula 4 Italian Championship – and he does so hoping to end his rookie year inside the overall top three.
Beganovic enters the finale, staged at Rome’s Vallelunga circuit, with good cause for optimism. A determined maiden victory last time out at Imola – backed up by a further two podiums in the other two races run – puts the Swede firmly on course for a strong conclusion to the campaign.
With his confidence running high, the young Ferrari Driver Academy member is eager to do battle once more in 2020. Currently holding third in the championship standings, Beganovic will be looking to lean on his current momentum as the final championship positions are locked in behind newly-crowned champion Gabriele Minì (ITA).
While several drivers remain mathematically involved in the top three dispute, Beganovic’s main direct competition comes from Van Amersfoort Racing duo Francesco Pizzi (ITA) and Jak Crawford (USA), currently second and fourth respectively. Pizzi holds a 23-point gap over Beganovic, who in turn enjoys a 28-point advantage over Crawford with 75 points still up for grabs in the weekend’s three races.
“It was amazing to take my first win last time out at Imola, and now I really want to finish the season off in the best way I can,” says Dino Beganovic. “I have learned so much this year in Formula 4 and have really evolved as a driver. I think that’s been clear to see in the last few races. It would be great to cap off my rookie season in the top three overall, but I honestly don’t think about it too much. I will take it one race at a time and hopefully we can pick up where we left off.”
The field takes to the track at Vallelunga on Wednesday for a day of pre-event testing. The grid previously conducted yet another test at the same venue last week, in which Beganovic was a regular feature towards the top of the timesheets.
Official running for the F4 Italian Championship finale begins on Friday with a brace of free practice sessions, followed on Saturday by qualifying and Race 1 of the triple-header weekend. Races two and three take place on Sunday, with each of the 30-minute heats livestreamed at www.dinoracing.se.
