- 2025 FIA Formula 2 Championship kicks off in Melbourne
- Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy racer returns to winning grounds down under
The curtains will raise on a highly exciting new season for Dino Beganovic this weekend as the much-anticipated FIA Formula 2 Championship campaign gets underway in Melbourne.
Beganovic is readying himself for his first full season in Formula 1’s main feeder series, having made an instant impression in two emphatic guest appearances late last year that saw the Swede secure a maiden F2 podium on only his second weekend in the championship.
Looking to build on that early promise, 21-year-old Beganovic has joined British outfit Hitech ahead of the 2025 campaign, while continuing to enjoy the support of the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy.
“I am super excited to get the new season underway here in Australia this weekend,” says Dino Beganovic. “I’ve settled in great with Hitech in testing, and I can’t wait for our first race together. Having done the final two rounds last year, I feel ready to hit the ground running.
“I know it will be extremely competitive out there, but I’ll be focussing on the process and doing the best job I possibly can. Hopefully we can have a good start to the season.”

The 2025 Formula 2 calendar takes in 14 rounds across 13 countries, all sitting on the Formula 1 support bill. Each round of the championship comprises two races; a Sprint Race on the Saturday and a longer-distance Feature Race, including a mandatory pit stop for a change of tyres, on Grand Prix Sunday.
The field is made up of 22 drivers of 16 different nationalities, racing for 11 different teams.
It all begins this weekend in Australia, with the popular Albert Park circuit playing host to the opening round of battle. The venue, which comprises everyday roads surrounding a picturesque lake in downtown Melbourne, was the site of Beganovic’s first victory in the lower-tier Formula 3 championship last year.
“I love the fact we’re starting the season in Melbourne,” Dino Beganovic concludes. “The fans are amazing, the track is great and the whole city really seems to enjoy the atmosphere when Formula 1 is in town. I took my first F3 victory there last year, winning the Feature Race, which was a milestone moment in my career. I really can’t wait to be back in an even faster car this year in F2!”
The 2025 FIA Formula 2 Championship kicks off on Friday morning local time with the first practice session of the year. It is followed by qualifying, which will set the grid for both races of the weekend (with the top ten reversed for the Sprint Race), on Friday afternoon.
The season-opening Sprint Race takes place on Saturday, followed by the Feature Race on Sunday morning before the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix.
