– Ferrari Driver Academy youngster set for Macau Grand Prix debut
– Formula 3 returns to Chinese city for prestigious end-of-season classic
Dino Beganovic will take to the track for a final time in 2023 this week as one of the most revered races in junior motorsport returns: the Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix – FIA F3 World Cup.
Following a three-year hiatus induced by the pandemic, Formula 3 makes a much-anticipated return to Macau’s ultra-demanding Guia street circuit – laid out in the heart of the Chinese gambling metropolis – to stage a thrilling climax to the campaign.
Lining up for SJM Theodore PREMA Racing, Beganovic is preparing to tackle the unique challenge of Macau for the first time of his career, forming part of a 27-car field going all out for glory in the blue-riband FIA F3 World Cup.

“It’s the final race of the year, and it doesn’t get more special than this,” says Dino Beganovic. “I’m extremely excited about Macau. From what I’ve seen in the sim and on TV, the track looks absolutely spectacular. It has everything: a super long straight with a good overtaking opportunity, a really fast section in the mountain, the slowest corner in the world… It’s going to be a big challenge, but I can’t wait to take it on.”
Steeped in history as a standalone extravaganza in the Far East to close out each season, the Macau Grand Prix has helped propel generations of up-and-coming drivers into the limelight on their path to Formula 1.
Celebrating its 70th edition this year, the event has been headlined (barring the pandemic) by Formula 3 since 1983, in a race won by Ayrton Senna.
Beganovic is the sole Swedish driver on the grid this year. Felix Rosenqvist (2014/2015) and Rickard Rydell (1992) – now acting as Beganovic’s manager – are the only two Swedish winners of the race to date.
“It’s such an historic event,” Dino Beganovic concludes. “I used to always wake up in the early morning back home and watch the races each year, and to now be on the grid is a pinch-yourself moment. It will be an amazing experience.”
The Macau Grand Prix features a four-day event programme, beginning with practice and a pair of qualifying sessions across Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, a 10-lap Qualifying Race will be held, determining the final grid for Sunday’s all-important, 15-lap Grand Prix.
Live streaming is available throughout the event on the official Macau Grand Prix website and Facebook page.
