- Swede teams up with SJM Theodore PREMA Racing for 2024 FIA FR World Cup
- 2022 FRECA champion reunited with Formula Regional car in historic edition of Asian street classic
Dino Beganovic will return to the iconic Macau Grand Prix for the 2024 FIA FR World Cup next month, competing with SJM Theodore PREMA Racing in the famous Asian street event.
Beganovic made his Macau debut last year, proving an instant frontrunner at the demanding Guia street track before crashing out while battling for victory in one of junior motorsport’s blue-riband races.
The 2024 edition will see the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy member return to the former Portuguese colony outside Hong Kong, forming part of a 27-strong spectacular entry list that yet again features some of the world’s fastest up-and-coming drivers.
In total, drivers from 15 different nations are set to make up the grid.
“I said last year that I would be returning to Macau one day, and here we are,” says Dino Beganovic. “It’s incredibly exciting to be back. The circuit is not just one of my absolute favourites in the world, it’s also truly unique, extremely challenging and rewarding when you get it right. It’s got so much history and so much character, and I’m very, very excited to make this return and try to fight for the win with SJM Theodore PREMA Racing.”
Historically known as a Formula 3 event, the Macau Grand Prix phases in a new era of Formula Regional-based competition in 2024, rebranding as the FIA FR World Cup. The race is once again set to pitch the most talented young drivers from throughout the globe against each other in a one-of-a-kind, non-championship showdown.
Prior to competing in the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2023 and 2024, Beganovic was crowned champion in the Formula Regional European Championship (FRECA) in 2022. The Macau Grand Prix will mark the 20-year-old Swede’s first race in Formula Regional machinery since sealing the FRECA title at Mugello two years ago.
“It’s going to be the first-ever Macau Grand Prix for Formula Regional cars, which means a clean slate for everyone,” Dino Beganovic concludes. “No one has been there with those cars before, and it will be a different style of driving compared to last year in F3.
“For me personally, I have some great memories of Formula Regional after winning the FRECA title in 2022. It will be a challenge for sure, having not raced in the car for two years, but I’ll make sure to prepare in the best way possible. I simply can’t wait for what will be a very special weekend.”
The 2024 FIA FR World Cup takes place on November 14-17. The event will maintain its traditional format of a 10-lap Saturday qualifying race followed by a 15-lap main race to crown the eventual winner on Sunday.
