- Imola first up in high-paced triple-header as F2 season gears up
- Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy racer keen to perform in front of Italian tifosi
Dino Beganovic takes fresh confidence into the European part of the FIA Formula 2 Championship season, as racing resumes in the F1 feeder series with three consecutive race weekends coming up.
After starting out his rookie F2 campaign with flyaway events in Australia, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, the arrival in Europe marks a homecoming of many sorts for Beganovic. Racing gets back underway this weekend at Imola – the iconic Italian circuit named after Enzo and Dino Ferrari, and located just an hour’s drive from Beganovic’s hometown of Maranello.
Although Swedish by nationality, Italy and Maranello have been Beganovic’s adopted home ever since he joined the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy back in 2020. The relationship has evolved over the years to the point where Beganovic recently made his Formula 1 Free Practice debut for the Scuderia at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Always spurred on by the Italian tifosi, Beganovic can also draw from previous milestone moments achieved at Imola – including his first-ever single-seater pole position and victory (both scored in Italian F4 back in 2020).
“I’m super excited going back to Europe and returning to Imola, which is one of my favourite circuits in the world,” says Dino Beganovic. “It’s a home event in so many ways for me and as a Ferrari-affiliated driver it’s always very special to race there. I’ve had some of my most important successes there in the past as well and I hope we can join the fight up front once again this year. I think we have reason to be hopeful.”
Running begins in Imola on Friday with practice and qualifying. As always in Formula 2, a pair of races will be staged across the weekend, starting with the Sprint Race on Saturday followed by the Feature Race on Sunday.
Following the Imola round, Formula 2 will head straight to Monaco next weekend and then immediately to Barcelona to complete a triple-header of events.
