Dino Beganovic will get his first taste of the legendary Spa-Francorchamps, one of the world’s greatest racing circuits and the annual home of F1’s Belgian Grand Prix, as the Formula Regional European Championship sets camp in the Ardennes Forest this weekend.
Beganovic arrives in Belgium on the back of a solid performance last time out at Zandvoort, where the Ferrari Driver Academy youngster equalled his season-best finish of eighth in the ultra-competitive 32-car field.
Moving on to Spa for his first-ever trip to one of motorsport’s most beloved venues, excitement is running high for Beganovic as he prepares to take on iconic corners such as Eau Rouge, Pouhon and Blanchimont around the highly challenging and fast 7 km lap.
“This will be my first time at Spa, and I’m obviously very excited,” says Dino Beganovic. “It’s a legendary place and I’ve spent several hours in the sim and watching onboards to prepare for the challenge. We have a test on Wednesday ahead of the race weekend itself, so that will help get us up to speed, but I’m sure it will still take some time to learn such a long and varied track.”
This weekend not only marks the first time Beganovic has taken on the roller-coaster that is Spa-Francorchamps; it will also be a first for the Formula Regional arm of his team, Prema.
“The team has not been to Spa with these cars before, so it’s a case of learning by doing for all of us this weekend,” Beganovic concludes. “However, they have a lot of experience and winning pedigree from other categories, like F3 and F2, so that should be no major issue. The weather looks like it may play a part this weekend, too, unsurprisingly for Spa, so I’m expecting a lot of great racing!”
After the unofficial test day on Wednesday, Beganovic and his opponents will return to the track on Friday for a brace of practice sessions to formally kick off the weekend. Saturday features the busiest schedule of the meeting with two qualifying sessions and one race, followed on Sunday by the concluding Race 2.
Streaming and live timing will be made available via www.dinoracing.se throughout the weekend.
