– Ferrari Driver Academy youngster dominates from pole in front of F1 elite
– Swede maintains imposing form to win in the principality
Dino Beganovic scored an extraordinary victory on the streets of Monaco to extend his Formula Regional European Championship lead, taking the biggest win of his career to date with a dominant display in front of the Formula 1 paddock.
Having won two of the first four races of the season, Beganovic arrived in the principality as the man of the moment, and duly delivered in style with another commanding performance around the famous street track.
Storming to the fastest time in qualifying, Beganovic started the first race of the weekend from second on the grid owing to Monaco’s staggered group qualifying format. The Swede maintained his position throughout Saturday’s opening encounter, steering his Prema Powerteam machine onto arguably the most prestigious podium in motorsports.
The Ferrari Driver Academy member saved up the best for last, however, taking maximum advantage of pole position in Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix precursor to lead home the 28-car field in a dominant victory.
“Wow! Winning on the streets of Monaco is a dream coming true, and I am absolutely ecstatic,” says Dino Beganovic. “It’s been another fantastic weekend and I’m so grateful to Prema for all the hard work they continue to put in. I also want to thank FDA and all of my sponsors. I couldn’t have done it without them.
“I can’t believe we just won the single biggest race on our schedule, but I’m sure it will begin to sink in eventually. This is a day I will never forget for the rest of my life.”
With Beganovic upholding his early-season feat of finishing no worse than second in any of the races staged so far, the Swede now further strengthens his hold on the Formula Regional European Championship lead.
Racing resumes in just one week’s time at the nearby Circuit Paul Ricard, located not far from Monaco further along the French Riviera.
