- Exciting weekend ahead for Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy racer
- Swede takes on final two rounds of 2024 F2 season with DAMS Lucas Oil
Dino Beganovic travels to the Middle East this week for a career milestone moment as he prepares for his first taste of the FIA Formula 2 Championship in Qatar.
Having raced in Formula 3 for the past two seasons, the Swede is stepping up the FIA single-seater ladder for the last two rounds of the F2 campaign, making his debut in the final rung on the road to Formula 1.
Teaming up with DAMS Lucas Oil this weekend at Lusail International Circuit before also taking on next week’s season-finale in Abu Dhabi, Beganovic is excited to grasp a thrilling new challenge and adventure.
“I am really, really looking forward to this weekend,” says Dino Beganovic. “Making my Formula 2 debut is a pinch-yourself moment. I visited the team in France last week for our final preparations and now I’m just extremely keen to get out on track.”
Beganovic will face a host of new challenges this weekend in Qatar. Alongside having never driven the F2 car, the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy racer also has no previous experience of the Lusail International Circuit – a physical challenge in soaring heat as Beganovic also happens to ready himself for the significantly longer race distances of Formula 2.
“There is a lot to take in this weekend and so much to learn,” Dino Beganovic concludes. “It’s a new car, a new track – thankfully for everyone in F2 – and two different tyre compounds to try and understand. The feature race will be my first time doing a live pit stop and I’ve never driven a one-hour race distance before. It’s a big challenge and a big step, but I think we’ve done what we can to prepare for it. I feel ready.”
Beganovic’s first-ever laps in Formula 2 will come in the sole practice session of the weekend on Friday afternoon. That is then immediately followed by qualifying later in the evening.
Just like in F3, two races are staged during Formula 2 events, with the sprint race taking place on Saturday and the feature race on Sunday. Unlike in the lower tier, however, drivers are obliged to use two different tyre compounds and make a mandatory pit stop in the feature race.
