Dino Beganovic took away a points-paying finish of tenth from round two of the 2021 Formula Regional European Championship in Barcelona.
Qualifying sixth and 11th respectively for the two races on F1’s Spanish Grand Prix support bill, Beganovic featured in the thick of action within the large 34-car field.
It became a bit too close for comfort in the late stages of Saturday’s opening race, when the Ferrari Driver Academy member – on course for a points-paying finish – was forced off the road by a fellow rival (who later picked up a penalty for the incident).
Beganovic was able to continue, but tumbled to 15th at the chequered flag.
The Swede then enjoyed a more trouble-free race on Sunday, advancing from 11th to tenth aboard his Prema Powerteam car to pick up the final point on offer.
“It’s not where we want to be, but we simply didn’t quite have the pace this weekend,” says Dino Beganovic. “We did the best with what we had and in the end we picked up a point on Sunday. We were on for a similar result in the first race, too, but got unlucky with that situation at the end. We will analyse what went wrong this weekend and learn from it as we move forward.”
Next up for the Formula Regional European Championship is a visit to Monte Carlo, where the field will hold a prestigious slot on the F1 support programme for the blue-riband Monaco Grand Prix on May 20-23. The event will mark Dino Beganovic’s first-ever street race.
