– Formula Regional European Championship heads to beautiful Mugello
– Penultimate round takes Ferrari Driver Academy youngster back “home” to Italy
Dino Beganovic returns to happy hunting grounds this weekend for the penultimate round of the Formula Regional European Championship, setting sight on fresh success at Mugello.
Beganovic clinched a double podium at the Tuscan track in Italian Formula 4 last year, the Ferrari Driver Academy member excelling in mixed weather conditions.
With plenty of positive memories to draw from, optimism is running high as the Swede returns to the picturesque outskirts of Florence.
“I had a very good weekend at Mugello last year in F4, and that always helps you mentally heading into an event,” explains Dino Beganovic. “We take some good knowledge into this round, including the lessons learned last time out in Valencia as well.”
Fast but unrewarded, Beganovic had a weekend of mixed feelings in the previous round at Valencia’s Circuit Ricardo Tormo two weeks ago, going second quickest in practice and setting the fastest lap of the final race – but retiring with reliability issues.
“We’ve taken the positives from that weekend, and we’re all set to go for Mugello,” Dino Beganovic concludes. “It’s probably going to be difficult to follow other cars through the fast sweepers here, so qualifying will be even more important than usual. We need to nail that.
“As for the races, we expect the tyres to have a hard time, especially the lefts in Sector 2 where we’re nearly flat out all the way through. It’s going to be exciting, and I can’t wait to drive this car around this great track!”
Beganovic – who lives in Italy during the season – will join the rest of the field for an initial four-hour test on Thursday, with official practice then staged on Friday. As per the usual event schedule, the two qualifying sessions and races then play out across Saturday and Sunday.
