- Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy racer enjoys British downpour
- Takes P4 in wet Feature Race
Dino Beganovic battled through the rain at Silverstone to score a much-needed top five result in round eight of the 2025 FIA Formula 2 Championship.
Beganovic entered the weekend looking to recoup frontrunning form after a couple of difficult races, and got off to a positive start with P4 in practice and P8 in qualifying as he led the Hitech charge on home soil for the British team.
With the top ten in qualifying reversed on the grid for Saturday’s Sprint Race, Beganovic then found himself with a golden opportunity as he lined up third for the opening 21-lap encounter.
However, the Swede’s 2025 jinx would strike again as he stalled on the grid heading on to the formation lap, forcing him to start from the pitlane.
Joining the race dead last and several seconds behind the tail of the 22-car pack, there was only so much Beganovic could do as he picked off a couple of backmarkers on his way to 18th.
“We thought we had a really good opportunity to do something special in the Sprint Race, so that was a big disappointment,” says Dino Beganovic. “For some reason, the car just stalled heading on to the formation lap. I went through the same procedure as always. The team had a thorough look at it overnight, changing the clutch, and they did a good job making sure it wasn’t an issue for the Feature Race.”
Moving into Sunday, the British weather then cast the Feature Race into plumes of unpredictability as heavy rain arrived at Silverstone. Keeping his cool on a wet but drying track, Beganovic lapped strongly throughout in the changeable conditions, gradually picking off his rivals on his way to P4.
“A good end to the weekend here at Silverstone,” Dino Beganovic concludes. “We thought it would dry up a lot quicker than it did, so we went for a semi-dry set-up before the start. It cost us a bit in the beginning but then the pace was strong and I could move forward.
“It’s nice to get these points in the bag after a tough few races and it provides some added confidence heading into the rest of the season.”
The FIA Formula 2 Championship resumes at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium on July 25-27.
