The Formula Regional European Championship finally returns this weekend after nearly two months on the sidelines, with a refreshed Dino Beganovic keen to get back on track.
After racking up his best result of the season with fourth place at Spa-Francorchamps right before the summer break, Beganovic has spent much of the mid-season hiatus recharging his batteries at home in Linköping, Sweden.
Eager to get back to business, however, the Ferrari Driver Academy teenager is looking forward to climbing back aboard his Prema Powerteam car for the championship’s autumn stretch.
“I’m very excited to finally be back racing this weekend,” says Dino Beganovic. “I’ve had a great time back in Sweden for a number of weeks, and it’s been great to see friends, family and sponsors. That said, I have also been longing to get back to Italy, to work with the team and FDA, and to basically get back out there to do what I love the most.”
The season resumes at Austria’s Red Bull Ring, a picturesque alpine circuit nestled among the Styrian mountains overlooking the village of Spielberg. Characterised by long, undulating straights leading into sharp corners, the track features some of the best overtaking opportunities on the calendar, setting the scene for plenty of action as the 30+ car Formula Regional grid returns.
“The Red Bull Ring is a place I know very well, having raced there last year in Formula 4,” Dino Beganovic continues. “It’s a fun track. It only has ten corners, but it’s fast and flowing and is good for overtaking. The team usually has a fast car there, too, and we’ve been on the right track improving our package gradually over the last few rounds, leading right up to Spa before the break. I’m confident and I can’t wait to get out there!”
The Red Bull Ring meeting gets underway with a day of collective testing on Thursday, followed by official practice on Friday. Saturday and Sunday each contain one qualifying session and one race.
