– Formula Regional European Championship to be decided with back-to-back events
– Barcelona first up as points leader prepares for penultimate round of the season
Formula Regional European Championship leader Dino Beganovic is taking an unwavering approach into the final stretch of the hotly-contested single-seater series, which is set to be decided with two back-to-back events.
Beganovic currently leads the standings by 54 points heading into this weekend’s penultimate round in Barcelona, with only the season-finale at Italy’s Mugello circuit then remaining one week later.
With a maximum 50 points up for grabs in each round, Beganovic is well-placed to achieve his ultimate 2022 goal of sealing the title (and could in theory do so early if he retains his current advantage throughout this weekend’s meeting in Spain). The Ferrari Driver Academy racer, however, is steadfast in his commitment to press on.
“I’m really looking forward to Barcelona this weekend and Mugello the week after that,” says Dino Beganovic. “The goal is to win the championship, clearly, but I really don’t want to change anything in my approach. I’m tackling these last two rounds as an “October championship” if you like, and the target will be to try and win that too.”
Beganovic has won four races so far this season, and delivered another strong performance last time out at Spielberg (Austria) where the Prema Powerteam driver finished fourth and second.
“Barcelona is a little bit of a question mark for us, but we know that the potential is there inherently,” Beganovic previews the up-coming event in Spain. “If we can get the car tuned in for qualifying, I really think we have as strong a chance as anyone.”
Formula Regional European Championship practice gets underway in Barcelona on Friday. Qualifying and Race 1 take place on Saturday, with a second qualifying/race set then wrapping things up on Sunday.
