– Ferrari Driver Academy racer looking for swift return to front of field
– Medium compound tyres make first appearance of 2023
Dino Beganovic is targeting a quick return to the front of the field this weekend as the FIA Formula 3 Championship arrives in Budapest.
The Swedish F3 rookie has enjoyed a largely convincing first season in the Formula 1 feeder series, but suffered disappointment last time out at Silverstone after a technical issue in qualifying left him last on the grid and caused a blow to his championship ambitions.
As racing resumes this weekend on the tight and twisty Hungaroring, located on the outskirts of the Hungarian capital, Beganovic is eager to make amends.
“I’m excited for another weekend of racing, and I’m hungry for redemption after what happened at Silverstone,” says Dino Beganovic. “I really like the Hungaroring and I’ve spent a lot of time in the simulator preparing for this event. It will be an interesting weekend as we’ll use the medium tyres for the first time this year. We were meant to run them at Imola, which obviously got cancelled, so there will be a step into the unknown for everyone here.”
The Hungaroring forms part of another F3 double-header, tying with Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps next week. After that, only the season-finale at Monza remains in early September.
“It’s full focus ahead, and now is the time to really push as hard as we can to position ourselves in the championship for the final races,” Ferrari Driver Academy-backed Beganovic concludes. “I have high hopes for these coming two weekends, high expectations, and I can’t wait.”
The FIA Formula 3 Championship heads out on track in Budapest on Friday for practice and qualifying. The sprint race takes place on Saturday, while the slightly longer feature race is staged – as per usual – on the morning of the Formula 1 Grand Prix on Sunday.
