- Swede goes fourth fastest overall in Abu Dhabi post-season F2 test
- Laps just 0.070s off quickest time on final day of 2024 running
Dino Beganovic enjoyed a strong start to life with new team Hitech GP in post-season Formula 2 testing this week, setting the fourth fastest time across three days of running in Abu Dhabi.
Making his first appearance with the team he is set to drive for in the 2025 FIA Formula 2 Championship, Beganovic slotted seamlessly into his new environment during three productive days at Yas Marina Circuit.
The majority of the fastest laps were set on the final day of action on Friday, with Beganovic ending up P3 on the timesheets with a 1m35.843s as running concluded, a mere 0.070s off the quickest time.
With just one other driver posting a better time in one of the previous sessions, Beganovic ended the test fourth fastest overall among 23 drivers present, with 14 different nationalities making up the top 16 positions.
“It’s been a positive first test with Hitech GP,” says Dino Beganovic. “I’ve got a good feeling in the car, everyone has been great to work with, and we seem to be straight on the pace. We’ve been quick both on the qualifying simulations and the longer runs, which is promising even though of course it’s just testing.
“We’re only just getting started together, but for a first test, it basically couldn’t have gone better. I’m really happy with all three days, and especially this last one, which is extra encouraging going into the winter break. I can’t wait for next year!”
The Abu Dhabi test brings down the curtain on a busy 2024 season for Beganovic. Alongside a race-winning Formula 3 campaign, the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy racer has also contested the FIA Formula Regional World Cup in Macau, and made his Formula 2 debut in two commanding guest appearances at the end of the year. These included a first podium in only his third-ever F2 race.
Beganovic now returns to his native Sweden for the holidays, before resuming work ahead of the opening F2 round of 2025 in Australia on March 14-16.
