- Swede set for new acquaintance in Azerbaijan this weekend
- High-speed streets and famous “castle section” next up on Formula 2 schedule
Dino Beganovic will take on a new challenge this weekend as he prepares for his first visit to the Baku city circuit in Round 12 of the FIA Formula 2 Championship.
Laid out in the heart of Azerbaijan’s bustling capital, the Baku street circuit is famed for its fast nature and extensive main straight, featuring some of the highest speeds seen all year.
In contrast, meanwhile, it also boasts the renowned “castle section”, an ultra-tight sequence of corners that leaves no room for mistake between the barriers.
Baku is one of just two all-new tracks for Beganovic on the 2025 schedule (Jeddah Corniche being the other), making the up-coming weekend a special occasion for the Swedish Hitech driver.
“I am really looking forward to racing in Baku for the first time this weekend,” says Dino Beganovic. “Coming to a new track is always extra exciting and an additional challenge. It’s got a super long straight and mostly short corners, but also that famous castle section which is very technical. It looks like a lot of fun and I can’t wait to try it out.”
Beganovic arrives in Baku on the back of an encouraging conclusion to the previous event in Monza, where he unlocked fresh pace in Sunday’s Feature Race to pick up the bonus point on offer for fastest lap.
“Hopefully we can pick up where we left off at Monza and be up there fighting for it where we belong,” Beganovic concludes. “Having never driven the track, I’m hoping for plenty of laps in practice to lay the foundations for qualifying and the rest of the weekend.”
Practice begins in Azerbaijan on Friday, with qualifying coming up later the same day. As always in Formula 2, the Sprint Race is slated for Saturday, with the Feature Race following suit on Sunday before the F1 Grand Prix.
