– Ferrari Driver Academy youngster scores new double rostrum in France
– Championship leader still no worse than second in any race this season
Dino Beganovic extended his perfect 2022 podium streak with a fresh set of visits to the rostrum this weekend at Circuit Paul Ricard, as the Formula Regional European Championship leader again battled for victory and underpinned his pace with pole position.
Beganovic finished second in both races at the French Grand Prix track, extending his run of consecutive podiums to eight from the opening eight races this season.
The Ferrari Driver Academy-backed Swede also set the pace in qualifying for Race 1 of the weekend, netting him his third pole position of the campaign.
The performance marked a potent turnaround for the Prema Powerteam squad at Circuit Paul Ricard, where the Italian team has struggled for pace in recent visits.
“It’s incredible to extend this podium streak and to think that we’ve still not finished any worse than second in any race this season,” says Dino Beganovic. “It is actually more than I expected this weekend, knowing that we’ve not had great pace at Paul Ricard in the past. I’m very proud and happy for the whole team to have cracked the code here, and to go away from this round with a pole position and two second-place finishes is fantastic.”
Always looking for more, however, Beganovic was slightly frustrated to have missed out on victory in the final race on Sunday, where he challenged eventual winner Gabriele Minì for the lead in a situation which saw both drivers running out of road.
“I’m not very happy with how that evolved, and I felt like there was a win in there for us today,” Beganovic explains. “I was clearly quicker and was actually ahead of him into the braking zone, but that’s how it goes. A little bit disappointed with that, but all in all it’s been another super weekend.”
Following this weekend’s races, Beganovic now leads the Formula Regional European Championship standings by 63 points. The hotly-contested single-seater series is back on track in two weeks’ time at Zandvoort, the Netherlands.
