– Ferrari Driver Academy racer puts in battling display at Monza
– PREMA Racing claim teams’ championship
Dino Beganovic has wrapped up his first campaign of racing in the FIA Formula 3 Championship, taking sixth overall in the final standings after a battling performance at the Monza season-finale.
Beganovic had to come through from the back of the grid in both races at the Italian high-speed circuit, the Swede’s weekend heavily compromised in a contracted qualifying session where the red flags flew and Beganovic’s sole lap time was deleted for a track limits infringement.
From down in 23rd on the grid, the Ferrari Driver Academy youngster provided plenty of entertainment in front of the Italian tifosi, powering through to 13th in Saturday’s sprint race and all the way into the points in P9 in Sunday’s feature event.
“It’s been a hectic final round of the season – as always here at Monza – and unfortunately my weekend was highly affected by the events in qualifying,” says Dino Beganovic. “I should have kept the car within track limits on that lap, so that’s on me. Still, given where we started, I think we made a really good comeback and showed our true pace. Getting up into the points today from 23rd does feel like a positive end to the season.”
Finishing sixth in the 2023 FIA F3 standings, Beganovic’s efforts throughout the season also helped PREMA Racing wrap up the teams’ title on home soil.
“I’m obviously very happy that the team won the championship; they deserve it,” Beganovic concludes. “I am pleased with my own performance in my rookie season, too. We’ve had plenty of podiums, encouraging pace, and I have learned a lot. I want to thank everyone at PREMA, FDA, my sponsors, and my family. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
In his first year of FIA F3 competition, Dino Beganovic has scored four podiums (including a second-place finish on the streets of Monaco) and one fastest race lap. The Swede wraps up the 2023 season with a total tally of 96 points, placing him third among the rookie drivers.
