- Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy racer raring to go in Australia
- Swede aiming high as sophomore F2 campaign dawns
Dino Beganovic is gearing up for the start of a new FIA Formula 2 Championship campaign as the 2026 season gets underway this weekend in Melbourne, Australia.
The 22-year-old Swede is entering his second full season of F2 competition, shifting teams to now represent DAMS Lucas Oil while continuing his long-standing association with the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy.
Following a two-day travel delay caused by the current events in the Middle East, Beganovic finally arrived in Melbourne on Tuesday and is now fully focussed on getting 2026 off to a strong start at the Albert Park street track, which simultaneously hosts the season-opening Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
“I’m thrilled to be here in Australia on the eve of a new season,” says Dino Beganovic. “It’s always very special to be here and to have the first race of the year so far away from home. Melbourne is a lovely city, and I’ve got fond memories of the track itself, having scored my first Formula 3 win there a few years ago.
“I’m massively excited for what lies ahead with DAMS Lucas Oil this year and our shared objective is to fight for the championship. I can’t wait to get my second Formula 2 season underway in a few days’ time.”
This year’s F2 field features 11 teams and 22 drivers, with Beganovic once again the sole Swede on the grid.
Melbourne marks the first of 14 rounds on the 2026 Formula 2 calendar, which remains largely similar to last year except for new addition Madrid replacing Imola.
Running in Australia begins with practice on Friday, leading up to qualifying later the same day.
As usual in F2, two races are set to play out across each weekend, with the Sprint Race slated for Saturday and the longer Feature Race – which includes a compulsory pit stop – taking place on Sunday.
