- Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy racer set for FIA Formula 2 Championship debut
- Swede to contest last two rounds of 2024 in Qatar and Abu Dhabi
Dino Beganovic will compete for DAMS Lucas Oil in the remaining two rounds of the 2024 FIA Formula 2 Championship campaign.
Having raced in Formula 3 for the last two seasons, 20-year-old Beganovic is now set for his maiden pair of F2 appearances as he acquaints himself with Formula 1’s main feeder series for the first time.
The Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy racer will make his Formula 2 debut in the series’ inaugural visit to the Lusail International Circuit in Qatar later this month, before tackling the season finale at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi in December.
“Making my Formula 2 debut and contesting the final two rounds of the season with DAMS Lucas Oil is a dream come true for me,” says Dino Beganovic. “It’s a team with a lot of history, but also with tremendous drive and motivation. The timing is right. I look very much forward to getting to work together in the simulator as we begin to prepare for these two races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.”
Based in Le Mans, France, DAMS Lucas Oil is a longstanding Formula 2 team which has competed in the F1 feeder series since the start of the championship’s modern era in 2017.
“We’re excited to take on a talent like Dino for the remainder of the season,” says DAMS Lucas Oil team owner Charles Pic. “It’s a step up from Formula 3 and a very competitive championship, but we’re confident that with the help of the team Dino can be competitive in these final two rounds. He has an excellent racing CV, and we believe he has what it takes to fight for strong points.”
Beganovic joins the F2 field on the back of double race wins in FIA Formula 3 this year, finishing sixth overall. The 20-year-old Swede previously won the 2022 Formula Regional European Championship title.
“Having spent two years in Formula 3, this is the next natural step in my career,” Dino Beganovic concludes. “It’s exciting, and also very challenging. Pit stops will be something entirely new to me, as will the use of two different tyre compounds during the weekend. It will require a new approach to races and it’s something I will have very little time to adapt to.
“My aim for these two races is to learn as much as possible, but at the same time I obviously want to do a good job and be up there fighting for the team. I’m really looking forward to getting to Qatar and gain a first taste of F2 and then build on that further in Abu Dhabi.”
Beganovic will join the FIA Formula 2 Championship for rounds 13 and 14 of the 2024 season. His debut in Qatar will take place on November 29–December 1, with the Abu Dhabi finale coming up a week later on December 6-8.
Before his F2 adventure, Beganovic will also contest the Macau Grand Prix in China next week (14-17 November).
