– Stars of tomorrow racing on F1 support bill once again
Dino Beganovic heads to Spain this weekend for round two of the Formula Regional European Championship, once again slotting in on the Formula 1 support programme.
Beganovic enjoyed a promising, yet somewhat unrewarding, debut in the ultra-competitive single-seater series last time out, leading the rookie charts in qualifying at Imola and running fourth in Race 2 until a coming-together with a fellow rival spoiled the podium charge.
Looking to make amends this weekend, the Ferrari Driver Academy youngster forms part of an impressive 33-car grid at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, ready for battle on the Spanish Grand Prix bill.
“I’m feeling confident,” says Dino Beganovic. “It’s good to have the first race in the bag, knowing that we are in the mix. I’m bringing the positives from Imola, and will try to improve on the things that weren’t quite as good. We tested at Barcelona in the pre-season, so I know the track and I’m ready to go.”
In a time table change for this weekend, only a single practice session will take place on Friday before the two qualifying showdowns, putting track time at a premium.
“It will be a bit more challenging having just one practice session this weekend, and it’s also ten minutes shorter,” Beganovic admits. “We need to be on it from the start, but the team is very experienced and we’ve prepared thoroughly. Overtaking is going to be quite difficult in Barcelona, especially now with the change to [the more open] Turn 10, so qualifying will be key and we need to arrive there in the best shape possible.”
Formula Regional European Championship running gets underway with practice on Friday morning. The two races of the weekend take place on Saturday and Sunday respectively, spanning 30 minutes + 1 lap.
