– The Netherlands plays host to fifth round of Formula Regional European Championship
The Dutch North Sea shore greets Dino Beganovic and the rest of the Formula Regional European Championship fraternity this weekend for round five of the 2021 campaign.
Marking the halfway point of the season, the iconic and highly challenging Zandvoort circuit is next up for Beganovic and his Prema Powerteam squad, who are all eager to fight back following a difficult weekend last time out at Paul Ricard.
“Zandvoort is a very special track, definitely one of the most challenging on the calendar and also one of the most fun,” says Dino Beganovic. “We arrive here hoping to be back on form, and we have spent the last few weeks analysing the situation and what we can do to improve. We have a good idea of some things to try in testing – we have two hours of extra running on Thursday this week – and I’m really confident that we’ll be back where we belong.”
Beganovic has only once driven the fast, flowing Zandvoort track, with the Ferrari Driver Academy junior spending a day of testing at the venue last year in Formula 4.
“It is a cool place,” Beganovic elaborates. “There are a number of banked corners, even more steeply angled now after they reprofiled some of the turns, and you need to get into a certain flow. There is little room for error and the tyres take a pounding, especially on the left with three fast right-handers at the back of the track. Overtaking is difficult, so qualifying will be key. Hopefully the things we have planned for testing and practice will put us towards the front in qualy, and then we’re ready to take the fight!”
Following Thursday’s pre-event two-hour test, official action for the Formula Regional European Championship begins on Friday with a brace of free practice sessions.
Qualifying 1 and Race 1 take place on Saturday, while Sunday plays host to Qualifying 2 and Race 2.
