– Ferrari Driver Academy Swede gets early start to new season
– Five weeks in Abu Dhabi and Dubai lie ahead for impressive field
Dino Beganovic is ready to launch his 2022 motor racing campaign with a flat-out attack on the five-round Formula Regional Asian Championship (FRAC), which kicks off this weekend in Abu Dhabi.
The Swedish driver, who turned 18 on Wednesday, is on site in the United Arab Emirates to take part in the increasingly popular winter series – with a mammoth 28 cars entered for this weekend’s season-opener.
Beganovic is set to drive for Indian outfit Mumbai Falcons – which is operating in collaboration with Italian squad Prema – as part of a three-car line-up which also features fellow Ferrari Driver Academy member Arthur Leclerc and Sebastian Montoya.
ENTRY LIST: Formula Regional Asian Championship
Beganovic returns to the Middle East-based championship for a second year, stepping up to a full-season charge this time around having scored four podiums from a partial nine-race stint in 2021 (when the series was known as the F3 Asian Championship).
“I’m thrilled to be back in the championship here in the Middle East and I can’t wait for the lights to go out this weekend for my first races of the year,” says Dino Beganovic. “I learned a lot last year, and I have high hopes for my return. I know the circuits now, I know the car, and I’ve settled in great with Mumbai Falcons already. Let’s get out there and start the season on a high!”
The Formula Regional Asian Championship spans five consecutive weekends of racing, beginning and concluding at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit and featuring three intermediate rounds at the Dubai Autodrome. Each meeting takes in three races, making it 15 in total.
Pre-season testing began in earnest at Yas Marina on Wednesday, with Beganovic convincingly leading the first session and ending the day second fastest overall.
Testing continued on Thursday, with official practice and two qualifying sessions on Friday then followed by three 30-minute races across Saturday and Sunday. Live streaming will be available on the championship’s Facebook page, with live timing also accessible online. Please visit www.dinoracing.se for up-to-date links each weekend.
As previously announced, Dino Beganovic’s main 2022 programme will see the Swede return for a sophomore campaign in the Formula Regional European Championship, which features the same spec Tatuus T-318 cars as utilized in the sister Asian series.
