When the Formula 4 Italian Championship raced at Imola back in August, Dino Beganovic set off from a career-first pole position. With the series returning to the fabled F1 track again this weekend, the Ferrari Driver Academy Swede is hoping to light up the timing screens once more.
After a one-month break, the F4 fraternity is prepping to get back on track for the penultimate battle of the season, returning to Imola which previously also staged round two of the campaign.
Back then, Beganovic was on strong form. Setting the pace in qualifying to secure the first pole position of his fledgling car racing career, it was an important milestone and demonstration of intent in one of the world’s most competitive junior single-seater series.
“I’m looking forward to returning to Imola this weekend,” says Dino Beganovic. “It was a great feeling to take my first pole position there back in August, and I’d obviously like to repeat that now. The weather played some tricks on us that weekend and the races were not as good, but I’ve learned a lot in the three months since. My target is to fight for the podium this weekend.”
With just two rounds of the season to go – Imola this weekend and the subsequent finale at Vallelunga in December – things are starting to heat up in the general classification.
Beganovic currently holds sixth overall, but sits just 29 points shy of the top three – with 150 points still up for grabs.
Action at Imola officially gets underway with free practice on Friday, although the event was preceded by a day of testing on Wednesday. 37 cars were present.
As always in Italian F4, two qualifying sessions and three races are due to play out this weekend, staged across Saturday and Sunday.
