– Solid weekend up front for Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy racer
– Intense battling in Italy as Swede moves up to third in F3 standings
Dino Beganovic moved closer to the FIA Formula 3 Championship lead with a pair of top five finishes at Imola in round three of the 2024 season.
Fresh off his maiden F3 win in Melbourne last time out, Beganovic continued to feature among the top contenders once again as the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy racer took in the cheers of the Italian tifosi.
After qualifying fifth, Beganovic produced a fine drive in Saturday’s opening sprint race to haul himself from eighth on the partially reversed grid to fourth by the flag.
He then followed it up with P5 in Sunday’s main feature race, completing a sweep of weekend top fives.
As a result, Beganovic now moves up to third in the FIA F3 standings, edging to within seven points of the overall lead.
“We got a lot of important points for the championship, but overall I have to admit the feeling in the car hasn’t been great this weekend,” says Dino Beganovic. “I’m actually surprised it was good enough for fifth in qualifying, because it didn’t feel like a top five lap. We need to look into that and understand what happened.”
Beganovic led the PREMA Racing charge in both races.
“We had a good sprint race and then maximised what we had again today, so in terms of execution I’m pretty pleased,” Dino Beganovic concludes. “We just didn’t have that outright pace this weekend and suffered quite a bit from tyre degradation. We have some work to do to analyse that, but if this is a poor weekend for us and we still outscore our rivals, it’s not too bad.”
Immediately ahead for the FIA Formula 3 Championship is one of the big season highlights, as the field joins the Monaco Grand Prix support bill next week (23-26 May).
