– Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy youngster looking to build on maiden win
– Back-to-back events in Imola and Monaco phase in busy summer stint
Dino Beganovic makes a long-awaited return to FIA Formula 3 action this weekend as the season resumes for a busy period of racing on European soil.
Beganovic clinched his maiden F3 victory last time out in Australia back in March, and is raring to go as the championship finally springs back to life following a two-month break.
It does so in full bloom, too, with Italy’s Imola circuit greeting Beganovic and his rivals this weekend before a swift turnaround sees the field regroup in Monaco just a few days later.
Moving into Imola for round three of the season, Beganovic sits fourth in the F3 standings and is excited for a proper homecoming. The Swede not only competes for Italian outfit PREMA Racing, but also has lived in nearby Maranello ever since joining the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy in 2020.
“It’s a great feeling to finally be back on track and begin the European part of the season, and to do so at Imola of all places,” says Dino Beganovic. “It really is a home event for myself, the team and for Ferrari. We’ve had a strong start to the season, winning the latest race in Melbourne, and I’m very excited to take that momentum into Imola and hopefully beyond.”
Last year’s scheduled Imola F3 round was cancelled due to floodings in the Emilia-Romagna region, making this year’s return even more highly anticipated for Beganovic – who has netted some important career milestones at the legendary track.
“Imola is one of my favourite circuits and I’ve always gone well there in the past,” Beganovic concludes. “I actually got my first-ever car racing pole and victory there in Formula 4, and won there in Formula Regional as well, so ticking F3 off the box would be an ideal next chapter. I know it’s a lot of hard work, but I’m really excited and can’t wait to hit the track!”
The sole F3 practice session gets underway on Friday morning, followed by qualifying in the afternoon. The sprint race takes place on Saturday and the slightly longer feature race once again acts as a Formula 1 Grand Prix precursor on Sunday morning.
