– Special week awaits Formula Regional European Championship field at Spa
– Ferrari Driver Academy Swede determined to defend points lead
The Formula Regional European Championship sets camp at Spa-Francorchamps this week for round seven of the season, with overall leader Dino Beganovic looking to return to winning ways in the Belgian Ardennes.
Beganovic enjoyed a dominant first half to the season, winning three races and pocketing a further five podiums across the opening ten races.
The Ferrari Driver Academy youngster faced a more challenging event last time out in Hungary, however, reducing his long-standing championship lead to nine points over nearest pursuer Gabriele Minì.
As racing resumes in Belgium this week, therefore, Prema Powerteam driver Beganovic is eager to strike back and consolidate his title advantage.
“Spa was a strong track for me last year, and I actually took my first rookie win there,” says Dino Beganovic. “We have had some time to reflect since Budapest, and we’ve done a lot of work in the weeks between these races. I feel like we are well-prepared and I think it’s time for us to return to winning ways.”
With the FRECA field this week joining the support bill for the 24 Hours of Spa sportscar race, the time table is substantially shifted from the regular event format.
Testing and practice begin as early as Wednesday, with the two qualifying sessions then taking place on Thursday and Friday respectively.
Race 1 gets underway on Friday afternoon, with the weekend then concluding early on Saturday with Race 2.
